Gregg Bleakney was raised on an island in Washington State's Puget Sound. His time at the University of Oregon as an All-American track and field athlete, avid world traveler, and sports psychology major have given him a unique perspective on the spirit of human sport and its relationship with global culture and the great outdoors.
In June of 2005, looking to shed the 9 – 5 world of the corporate software industry, Gregg quit his job and reduced his life’s possessions to the confines of a small storage unit. He then bicycled from Northern Alaska to the southern tip of South America to raise money to fight diabetes. Twenty-two months, 18,500 miles, 27 border crossings, $50,000 in funds raised, and 20,000 photographs later, Gregg returned to Seattle to pursue a career in Outdoor Lifestyle photography with a focus on human-powered endeavors.
In the summer of 2007, Gregg’s workload kicked into high gear. His assignments include photographing a grueling test of human endurance; the Paris-Brest-Paris ultra-marathon bicycle randonee in France and a magazine piece on cycling the high passes of Switzerland. He is also working on his first coffee table book, "Postcards from the End of the World", which documents his bicycle ride through the Americas.
Gregg still hasn’t moved out of his storage unit in Seattle.
